agrimed GmbH - based in Wallerstädten close to Groß Gerau and Frankfurt/Main airport in the Federal State of Hesse - is a producers' association and trading house for medicinal and spice plants in which approximately 40 farmers have joined together to produce, process and market herbs.
Founded in 1988 we are nowadays cultivating approximately 80 different medicinal and spice plants on an agricultural area of about 800 to 1,000 hectares every year.
Originally, the area of cultivation was located and limited to Hesse. Over the years it has expanded to the adjoining Federal States of Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate initially .
Nowadays it extends across the whole of Germany.
Herbage of the producer group agrimed are used in the kitchen, in herbal remedies and in cosmetic products. Some of our products are used to enhance and refine pet food.
The main crops of our annually produced 80 herbs are artichoke, fennel, chamomile, caraway, dandelion, parsley, peppermint, red clover and lemon balm. About one third of our herbs are produced according to organic principles.

A large variety of products requires a maximum level of knowledge and expertise in both the crop production as well as great sensitivity and fine judgment when drying and processing the herbs.
Our processing plant is up and running since 2012 and has been designed from the beginning to produce a large assortment and variety of fractions of final products in best quality. The operation of our processing plant is supported by sustainable energy from a biogas plant next door.

The way we take care of our medicinal and culinary herbs is dictated by our commitment to quality. We have been audited and successfully certified by different clients and monitoring organisations.
This means that quality is guaranteed throughout the production processes and best in class quality of our final products is assured.
We usually agree individual specifications with our customers and producers where we set the parameters for microbiology, residue of plant protection agents and the valuable substances. We use a number of accredited laboratories to ensure the agreed standards.
agrimed has been recognised under the European directives for organic agriculture (EU-Directive 834/2007), as well as the relevant regulations in Switzerland (Bio Suisse).
All of agrimeds organic producers are certified according to the EU Directive. Most of them also belong to one of the organic agriculture associations. These are: Naturland, Bioland, Demeter, Biosuisse Organic and EU-Bio. Herbs are produced under the policies and best practice of the European Herb Growers Association (EUROPAM). Most of our products are Kosher certified as well.
The compliance with the relevant standards is regularly monitored by independent monitoring organisations.
This certification has tremendously improved our reputation within the worldwide medicinal and spice herbs market.
Processes and responsibilities are clearly regulated in our quality handbook and together with the implemented HACCP Concept for the food and related industries we can ensure a safe and conscious treatment and handling of herb plants.
